Inspiring European Interior Living Rooms>

Here’s a list of vastly different European interior ‘s from around Europe that I have scoured to mainly spark some inspiration for a current project I’m working on. No white walls for this upcoming project and sometimes it’s nice to just see how other people live & design their homes. For some reason, Pinterest is my starting point to get the creative juices flowing. The European designers always have a grace around restoring older style properties, always injecting the right amount of modern while deeply appreciating the valuable architectural features of the period of the home.

Even though this living room does have white walls…It’s feels an elevated space by pairing back the colour palette bringing in the turquoise décor impact pieces against the burnt orange cushions works well with the customised walnut cabinetry. The added lower ceiling with Criss cross moulded ceiling reflects back a similar palette from top to bottom.

Do you need design advice about your home renovation?

Book your free discovery call with Melinda today

Let’s start with a discovery call, & chat about your project:

What happens on the Discovery call? Prior to the Initial Consultation we have a chat on the phone for approx. 20mins in the discovery call session. This is where we might discuss your existing home if your renovating or look at new plans if building a new home. We discuss the particular area’s you need help with kitchen, bathroom design ect. Then discuss where you are at with the planning stage, do you have a builder/ trades lined up? We also discuss expectations around timelines for the design process and when the renovation or new build could possibly start. At this stage I will bring up budget expectations around design, such as kitchen fitout, approx. bathroom fit-out construction costs so we can check if we are clear that the budget is suitable.

After the discovery call, I invite clients to book in an inital consultation, which is the begining of the design process.

What I think is interesting about this living room is the interior walls don’t meet the roof. The darker green moodier colour walls work well and contrast well to the curved metal roof structure. The Flos light from Taccia is also a delight.

I’m often not a big fan of architectural minimalist style for living rooms, with a lot of concrete finish, mainly because it feels looks to cold for my taste. But in this instance I feel the interior, while still minimalist does work. The use of full height window treatments does soften the space.  The use of a muted brown beige Taupe Lounges with black highlights ground the interior. I do feel the sandstone TV wall could have been bigger to fit a niche area for the TV, feels a bit off centre and maybe an afterthought, but that’s just my OCD coming through…

I think it’s the gorgeous mix of olde apartment style, the restoration of the painted ceilings and new interior pieces. The warmer colour palette in this living room is what I’m drawn to, which is my style go to. The herringbone vintage floorboards and the restored fireplace all ground the style of the interior and mixing in contemporary interior furnishings that instil the overall colour palette.

The custom cabinetry display cabinet brings a focal point to this Lounge room. I also love the cocktail bar area to the right hand side. The dark wood herringbone timber flooring ties in well with the walnut custom cabinetry designs. The designers have also use a 3 tone paint finish to walls which is a clever play on the interior. Using dado rails to define the finish edges and the quaint architectural ceiling detail features is just enough detailing not over the top.

Maybe it’s the curved wall that brings it to this interior…even though as an interior design this Is the worst to furnish lol, because the question always comes up where does the TV go?!. In this instance you could utilise the cabinetry behind, but then the lounges need to swap over, then your issue is the lounge in from of the curved wall doesn’t look/feel right.  Curves are definitely style that has come in the last few years. In this living room, It’s the balance between the dark walls and white floor/ ceilings and the right mix of neutral furnishings.
